Get Involved

Interested in volunteering with the MJC?

Whether it is your first time exploring the idea, or you are a veteran when it comes to volunteering in the legal community, the Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC) has some fantastic opportunities for those looking to get involved. Every year thousands of Milwaukee County's citizens go without legal representation either because they can't afford an attorney or can't access free legal aid.  In 2012, the Milwaukee Justice Center was able to help 10,659 people obtain better access to justice thanks to a committed network of over 347 volunteers who put in a combined total of 8,836 hours.

Here's how YOU can get involved...

The MJC Family Law Clinic

The MJC uses volunteers to staff the Self-Help Desks located in G-9 of the courthouse. Volunteers in this capacity do not give legal advice, but assist self-represented litigants in filling out forms, and provide step by step instructions for filing family law and small claims cases. Clients are served on a first come first served basis during the clinic's walk-in hours. Volunteers commit to one regularly scheduled 2-hour shift per month.

Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic at the Milwaukee Justice Center (Brief Legal Advice and Referral)

The Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinic at the Milwaukee Justice Center is a free, walk-in legal information and referral clinic located in G-9 of the courthouse staffed by volunteer attorneys working with and supervising Marquette University law students. The Clinic’s goal is to provide self-represented litigants with basic legal information and appropriate referrals on civil legal matters including divorce, custody and support, landlord-tenant disputes, probate, small claims and large claims. The Clinic does not take cases or represent clients in an ongoing manner. Attorneys commit to one 2-hour shift per month.
