Solar Site Assessments

A site assessment can help you determine what technology may be well-suited for your home or business. Site assessments provide objective, third-party recommendations for your specific location. A site assessment is recommended, but not required to be eligible for Wisconsin Focus on Energy incentives.

What is a solar site assessment?

Solar site assessments are designed to provide you with site-specific information about how solar can help your energy needs. You can evaluate your site for solar electric or solar hot water systems, or both. A site assessment is not a bid nor does it provide a system design.

What are the benefits of a site assessment?

During the site assessment a solar site assessor will visit your location and/or review your building plans. The site assessor will evaluate your location, answer your questions, and summarize their findings in a written report that will include:

  • A review of your goals for having a solar electric system

  • A basic analysis of your energy needs

  • An evaluation of the solar resource at your site

  • Recommendations for a solar electric system size and siting to meet your energy goals

  • Estimate of shading and snow cover

  • Estimate of a solar electric system’s power production

  • A rough cost estimate for the system

  • An overview of the incentives for which the system is eligible

  • Preliminary economic analysis of the system

  • The next steps you need to take to make your system a reality

How much does a site assessment cost?

Site assessment fees vary, and are determined by each individual site assessor. They can range between $200-$1000 depending on your site and technology. It is recommended to get 2-3 bids.
