SOLAR RIVERWEST
Milwaukee's First Neighborhood Solar Group Buy Program

  • ► At least 40% of the labor hours on the installations will be completed by Milwaukee residents that have been unemployed or underemployed (meeting Milwaukee Residential Preference Program requirements.

► 17 Milwaukee homeowners have committed to installing solar for a total of over 52 kW! (Compare that to 10 installs in 2012 and 12 installs in 2011)

► All Solar Riverwest participants completed energy efficiency improvements through the Me2 program, which not only saves on energy bills but reduces the size needed to power the entire home from solar!

Solar Riverwest is being led by Riverwest Cooperative Alliance with support from the City of Milwaukee’s solar program, Milwaukee Shines, and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA).

HOW SOLAR GROUP BUY PROGRAMS WORK

  • Reduced Price: Home and business owners come together to purchase and install solar as a community, which saves significant costs as a result of bulk purchasing solar electric panels. The more home and business owners that participate, the lower cost will be for everyone. The price is also reduced because education and customer development is done early in the process, which saves the installer time and money.
  • Education: Solar Riverwest helps neighbors decide where to start, what to budget, and who to hire. We provided educational sessions on details of the technology and the program.
  • Customer Enrollment: The enrollment allows customers to receive bids from selected installer. After receiving the cost estimate, the customer will decide whether or not to move forward with the project.
  • Installer Selected: The Solar Riverwest Advisory Committee will select one or multiple installers through a competitive bid process to ensure quality work at a low cost to customers. The installers(s) will be selected by an advisory panel based on criteria important to the participating neighbors (such as certification, experience, cost, and location).
