The Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO) strives to make Milwaukee a world class eco-city on America's Fresh Coast. ECO develops practical and racially equitable solutions that improve people’s lives and the economy while working to protect and restore the natural ecosystems that support our long-term prosperity. We collaborate with the community, develop global partnerships, offer award-winning programs, and implement the Milwaukee Climate and Equity Plan.
Environmental Sustainability Program Coordinator (Food Systems)

The position is grant funded and will support implementation of the “Waste Reduction and Sustainable Consumption” idea in the Milwaukee Climate and Equity Plan. The coordinator will support the FEED MKE Project aiming to reduce food waste at the beginning, middle, and end of the food preparation and consumption cycle; collect, glean, and prepare edible food material for redistributed consumption to hungry people; and increase participation in composting on an individual, neighborhood, and city-wide basis. This position in ECO is funded through the 2-year USDA Compost and Food Waste Recovery Cooperative Agreement beginning in June 2024 and concluding in June 2026. The coordinator will be responsible for grant activities. Further, as part of these grant activities, the coordinator will design, promote, and oversee a Milwaukee Food Saver Challenge.

The Milwaukee Climate and Equity Plan, adopted in 2023, provides the vision and foundation for climate action in Milwaukee with "10 Big Ideas" to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase racial equity, and make the city prosperous for the long term.
The Water Centric City Initiative showcases Milwaukee's global leadership in managing our natural water resources in a sustainable and resilient way. The initiative advances seven principles through innovation, collaboration, and education.
Milwaukee Energy Efficiency, or Me2, provides affordable financing up to $15,000 for energy saving improvements like new insulation, furnaces, boilers, hot water heaters, air conditioners, and windows. With Me2 financing through Summit Credit Union, redirect some of the money spent on high energy bills into home improvements that will keep you and your family comfortable year round.
Milwaukee Shines is Milwaukee's solar energy program. Milwaukee Shines provides information for home and business owners, resources for solar industry professionals, runs solar group buy programs in the City and partners with Summit Credit Union to offer solar loans up to $20,000.
ECO Neighborhoods is an initiative to concentrate enough eco-activities in a neighborhood to inspire neighbors to continuously practice environmentally friendly behaviors while creating a lasting impact.
Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing helps commercial property owners affordably finance energy or water efficiency, renewable energy, electric vehicle infrastructure, energy reliability, stormwater controls or "green infrastructure," and other resiliency upgrades in their buildings. Payments are collected through a voluntary municipal special charge that is paid back through the property tax system and is attached to the property, not the owner.
